Has it ever occurred to you that one hundred pianos all tuned to the same fork are automatically tuned to each other? They are of one accord by being tuned, not to each other, but to another standard to which one must individually bow. So one hundred worshipers meeting together, each one looking away to Christ, are in heart nearer to each other than they could possibly be were they to become “unity” conscious and turn their eyes away from God to strive for closer fellowship. Social religion is perfected when private religion is purified. The body becomes stronger as its members become healthier. The whole church of God gains when the members that compose it begin to seek a better and a higher life.1
I must say, an amazing quote. In my experience, why is no one listening?

Yes, Jeremy this is a great quote. Jesus prayed fervently for unity in his church before going to the cross. He knew how his church would be so divided and hurt by division and strifes over the years. We should also pray and seek unity as fervently as Jesus prayed for it. This would be such a testimony to the world that many would believe the absolute thruth, as Jesus said. John 17
I couldn’t agree with you more. I find it’s a major stumbling block for a lot of people when they see the fragmented state of the church, that is, the body of Christ (people!). If we’re all followers of Christ Jesus and submitting to and following the leading of the Spirit then why so many disagreements and fractures? As Tozer said, we don’t have to hold uniform beliefs to be united in Christ Jesus. If only we would focus on Christ Jesus, not each other…
