Old Testament: Moral Monstrocities

A little while ago I ran across an article by philosopher Paul Copan in which he discusses the seeming moral issues in the Old Testament, especially where the apparent Israelite slaughter of the Canaanite tribes is involved. It’s a bit of a long read, though interesting and worth it if you into the topic. You can find the article here.

I plan on giving this another read myself as I recently came across a line of argument (though, sadly, have misplaced the source) which attempts to create a distinction between Israel effectively committing genocide (as the charge goes), and Israel being commanded to drive out, but not slaughter, the tribes of Canaan. Seems to be worth a second look, assuming I can find it again.
